The standard for distribution box door bonding has shifted from braided copper wire to yellow/green insulated copper flex. While JGJ46-2005 previously permitted braided wire, the newly implemented JGJ/T 46-2024 (effective Jan 1, 2025) explicitly bans it in Article 4.1.12.
The ban addresses critical safety flaws: exposed braided copper is prone to corrosion, breakage, and high contact resistance in harsh site conditions. It also lacks insulation, risking accidental contact with live parts.
Current compliance requires a yellow/green insulated copper flexible wire with a cross-section not less than 4mm² (per GB 50303-2015). Ensure proper termination with crimped lugs and leave adequate slack for door movement. Always verify continuity with a tester post-installation.
It should be noted that different standards have slightly different requirements on whether bonding is mandatory. For temporary power on construction sites, JGJ/T 46-2024is stricter and requires yellow/green insulated bonding jumpers regardless of whether devices are installed on the door. For permanent building electrical works, GB 50303-2015and GB 50171-2012mainly require bonding for openable doors equipped with electrical devices. In actual work, project nature, supervision requirements, and local safety supervision practices should also be considered.
