To charge a lead-acid battery, pls kindly follow below instructions of Lead-Acid Battery Charging.

1. Four-Step Correct Charging Process (Key Points: "Adapter + Timing + Duration")

1. Choose the right battery charger: Avoid "mixing and matching," stick to "original/identical specifications."

The charger must match the battery's voltage and capacity (e.g., a 48V20Ah battery can only use a dedicated 48V20Ah charger). Mismatched voltage will result in overcharging or incomplete charging, while mismatched capacity will cause excessive or insufficient charging current, accelerating battery aging.

✅ Tip: If the original charger is damaged, purchase a replacement of the same specifications based on the battery nameplate (e.g., "6-DZM-20" indicates 12V20Ah, with 4 cells connected in series for 48V).

2. Seize the charging opportunity: "Shallow discharge, shallow charge," don't wait until the battery is completely drained

Charging should begin when the battery's remaining charge reaches 20%-30% (i.e., before the electric vehicle becomes immobile or the dashboard displays "low voltage"). "Discharging and storing" (leaving the battery fully depleted without charging for an extended period) and "over-discharging" (draining the battery until the vehicle can no longer operate) are strictly prohibited.

❌ Misconception: "New batteries need to be charged for 12 hours to activate" — Modern lead-acid batteries are no longer activation-free; simply charge them fully for the first time (about 8-10 hours). Overcharging can actually damage the battery.

3. Control charging duration: "Stop when fully charged," no more than 12 hours

The normal charging time is 8-10 hours (after the charger turns green, you can disconnect the power after an additional 1-2 hours of float charging. The green light indicates "basically fully charged," not "must charge for a few more hours").

✅ Suggestion: Set a phone alarm reminder to avoid charging before sleep and forgetting to unplug it the next day, especially overnight (nighttime voltage fluctuations can easily trigger overcharging).

4. Pay attention to the charging environment: ensure proper ventilation, maintain room temperature, and keep it away from hazardous scenarios

During charging, the battery may release gas. It should be placed in a well-ventilated, dry area away from direct sunlight (such as a balcony or shaded outdoor space). Charging is strictly prohibited in enclosed spaces (bedrooms, wardrobes) or near flammable materials (curtains, cardboard boxes);

Avoid charging at low temperatures (below 0°C) or high temperatures (above 40°C), as low temperatures may prevent a full charge, while high temperatures can accelerate battery dehydration, both of which harm the battery.

II. Three Absolute Taboos (Violating These Can Cut Your Lifespan in Half)

- ❌1: Plugging out the battery connector without unplugging the charger / Removing the charger immediately after power off

Sudden power interruption or unplugging during charging can generate "reverse pulse voltage," which may damage the electrodes and cause active material detachment. The correct procedure is: first disconnect the battery terminal plug, then the power terminal plug. After charging, wait 3-5 minutes before unplugging.

- ❌ 2: Continuing to charge after battery swelling or leakage

If the battery casing is found to be swollen or leaking acid, it indicates irreversible damage due to overcharging or water loss. Continuing to charge it will directly worsen the leakage or even cause an explosion. Immediate discontinuation of use and replacement of the battery are mandatory.

- ❌ 3: Covering the charger/battery while charging

During charging, both the charger and battery can generate heat. Covering them with towels, clothing, or other materials can impede heat dissipation, leading to a sudden temperature rise, overcharging, loss of control, and even damage to the charger or ignition of the battery.

Simple rules to remember: "Charge properly, charge at the right time, control the duration, and ensure ventilation." Avoid three common malpractices: overcharging, using mixed chargers, and charging overnight. Lead-acid batteries can last 3-5 years without any issues.
